Cloud 9 Boardwalk
Description
Cloud 9 Boardwalk is the single most recognized spot on Siargao Island – a 100-meter wooden pier stretching over the reef break that put the Philippines on the global surf map. The multi-level viewing tower at the end gives you a front-row seat to watch surfers threading through the barrels without getting wet. The name comes not from the feeling but from a Philippine chocolate bar that traveling surfers snacked on in the late 1980s.
Entry costs ₱100 per person – a government-regulated fee with official receipts issued on site. That covers access to the boardwalk, beach area, and parking. Surf lessons run ₱600 per hour including board and instructor, while board-only rental sits at ₱200 per hour. Lockers are available for ₱100 with unlimited in-and-out access. The bar Loca accepts cashless payments, which is useful when you want a cold Pilsen while waiting for sunset.
Sunrise is legitimately the best time to be here – calmer crowds, golden light over the water, and local kids jumping off the pier at low tide. Peak season earns the nickname ‘Crowd 9’ for good reason, so first light around 5:30 AM is the move if you want the boardwalk to yourself. The reef break is best surfed at mid to high tide – at low tide the reef is too shallow and exposed for safe surfing.
Highlights
